A barber entered the house of a man with whom he had a dispute and allegedly murdered his two children in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun. The murderer was shot dead in an encounter after he attacked the cops while fleeing, police said on Wednesday.
The double murder sparked tension in the city on Tuesday evening but the situation is under control now, they added.
Sajid ran a barber shop near the victims’ house in Baba Colony and knew their father, Vinod. On Tuesday evening, he entered the house and asked the family for tea, police said. When they left the room, he went to the terrace where Vinod’s three children – Aayush (13), Ahaan (7) and Piyush (6) – were playing.
He slit the throats of the two elder brothers and also attacked the six-year-old before fleeing the scene, police said. While Aayush and Ahaan died, Piyush sustained minor injuries.
Sajid was caught nearby but he tried to attack the police and was killed in an encounter. According to the police, the motive behind the murders was an ongoing dispute between Sajid and the children’s father.
Budaun District Magistrate Manoj Kumar said the police have received information about protests by the locals and called on people to maintain peace.
“We received information this evening that a man entered a house and murdered two young children. After this, there was an agitation by the people. They have been asked to maintain peace and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” he told news agency ANI.
