Food and grocery delivery apps have made our lives easier but such incidents have raised concerns about food safety and hygiene.
Mumbai doctor Orlem Brandon Serrao ordered an ice cream online on Tuesday, and got an extra “topping” he hadn’t bargained for – a human finger.
Mr Serrao, who lives in the suburbs of Malad, had ordered the ice cream cone online from Yummo Ice Creams. He was left traumatized when he felt something in his mouth that appeared to be a nut, but turned out to be a finger.
Mr Serrao shared his harrowing experience in a video statement and said he luckily did not swallow it.
“I had ordered three cone ice creams from an app. One of them was a butterscotch ice cream of Yummo brand. After eating half of it, I felt a solid piece in my mouth. I thought it could be a nut or a chocolate piece and spat it out to check what it was,” said Mr Serrao.
A careful examination of the “solid piece” left him in shock.
“I am a doctor so I know how body parts look like. When I carefully examined it, I noticed the nails and fingerprint impressions under it. It resembled a thumb. I am traumatized,” he said.
Dr Serrao immediately put the object in an ice pack so he could show it to the police and filed a complaint with the Malad police.
A case has now been registered against Yummo for food adulteration and endangering human life.
