A speedboat carrying four men zig-zags in the sea off the Mumbai coast. Within seconds, it suddenly turns towards a ferry and rams it.
A video of the incident was captured on camera from the ferry which was carrying 80 people. One has died, while 73 have been rescued. Five to seven passengers are yet to be traced, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
The video of the speedboat ramming the ferry surfaced over two hours after the incident happened.
Earlier, it was reported the ship started sinking, but the cause was not known.
The boat had sailed from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island, off the Mumbai coast.
More visuals show people wearing life jackets being rescued and shifted to another boat, while the vessel began tilting towards the water surface.
The operation to rescue the remaining passengers is going on. Three teams from the Indian Navy, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), the Coast Guard, Yellow Gate police station, and fishermen are involved in the rescue.
People use public ferries to sail to the Elephanta Caves, located east of Gateway of India.
