Former Team India cricketer Yusuf Pathan is the Trinamool’s Lok Sabha election candidate from Baharampur, which is currently held by Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
Though the Congress is yet to name a candidate for Baharampur, Mr Chowdhury is likely to seek a recontest from the seat that he has represented five times in the Lok Sabha.
Mr Pathan joined the Trinamool today as the Mamata Banerjee-led party announced candidates for all 42 seats in Bengal.
The announcement comes as a googly for the INDIA alliance, in which the Congress and Trinamool are together – at least for the optics.
The Trinamool is believed to have offered Baharampur and another seat to the Congress, but the two parties could not agree to a seat sharing formula.
